Meet Helen Kahaʻi, PsyD, EdD

Helen Kahaʻi

Dr. Helen Kahaʻi brings over 20 years of expertise to her roles as a Clinical Psychologist, Mental Health Counselor, and Licensed Professional Counselor. Her academic journey began with a B.A. in Psychology from the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo, followed by a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Chaminade University, where she was inducted into the Psi Chi Honor Society. She later earned her Ed.D. in Counseling Psychology from Argosy University, receiving multiple awards for her advocacy and leadership, and completed her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology at Chaminade University’s Hawaiʻi School of Professional Psychology.

Her clinical training included work at Hawaiʻi State Hospital, Family Strengthening Center, and the Alaska Psychology Internship Consortium. She completed a rigorous internship with Norton Sound Health Corporation in Nome, Alaska, where she served an Alaska Native village and surrounding communities as well as residency/post-doctoral work at the prestigious Bay Pines Veterans Health Administration.

Personal Statement

“I am passionate about delivering evidence-based therapies like CBT, solution-focused, and trauma-informed care. My practice is grounded in cultural sensitivity, trauma-informed care, and a deep belief in the transformative power of human connection. My goal is to empower each client, reduce symptom severity, and foster resilience and empowerment, always with a focus on ethical practice and measurable improvements in wellbeing.”

Clinical Experience

Dr. Kaha‘i has worked extensively within military and veteran communities, including her recent role as Staff Psychologist at the Veterans Administration Health Care System in Sarasota, Florida. There, she provided comprehensive diagnostic evaluations, implemented evidence-based treatment strategies, and collaborated on integrated care for Veterans. Her work emphasized measurement-based care, clinical research, and interdisciplinary teamwork. Dr. Kaha‘i has also provided crisis intervention, supervised other clinicians, and adapted treatment to the needs of diverse populations.
